When many people think of subsea system development, they picture advanced drawings, analyses, and technical solutions. But reality does not stop when the design is complete.

For our colleague Simon, the role of Technical Lead means following a project all the way from the initial concept discussions to offshore commissioning.

The photo was taken on an offshore oil platform, where he recently contributed to the implementation of a new system that he himself helped develop. On site, the work involves far more than technology. It is about ensuring operational reliability, answering questions, handling unforeseen challenges, and facilitating collaboration between all parties involved.

Simon has more than ten years of experience in the subsea industry. Throughout his career, he has held positions as System Engineer, Lead Engineer, and Technical Lead, working on complex projects where operators, suppliers, and multiple engineering disciplines must collaborate both mechanically and operationally.

One of the most demanding projects has spanned several years and covered everything from the contract phase to final delivery. Throughout the project lifecycle, he has served as the technical link between the customer, the design team, suppliers, and the offshore organization.

“What makes the job so exciting is the variety. One day I am working on theoretical system solutions and complex interfaces between different systems. The next day I am offshore, helping ensure that the solutions work in practice.”

This combination of practical experience, technical expertise, and understanding of the customer’s business is essential in today’s subsea projects, where systems are becoming increasingly complex and the need for coordination continues to grow.
