Pavel started to work in Advantek almost one year ago, and has during his time taken on the opportunity to work in different technical areas and sectors. Read about his first time in Advantek!

How has your first time at Advantek been?

I started at Advantek in April. During the first time I was available for new projects. I was not idle, instead I refreshed my university knowledge, practiced programming, and took PLC courses.

My first assignment was an in-house project together with colleagues from other offices. I am currently working with a company that delivers firefighting systems for offshore platforms. My role is Project Engineer, and the work includes a bit of everything: documentation, control systems, and various technical tasks related to firefighting systems. I get to use several parts of my education, which makes the work both interesting and enjoyable.

Being a consultant is very different from a long-term in-house role. You get a lot of variety, either within one project or across several projects, and you do not stagnate in the same way. For me, this was exactly what I needed. Staying in one place for a long time allows you to develop to a certain point, but meeting new people and learning new things is important. According to research, continuous learning is good for the brain, and there is always something new to master.

Briefly about your professional background

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, which means I have a broad technical foundation and can work across different areas.

I previously worked as a Product Engineer, mainly with development of various wiring products, such as light switches and sockets. I followed the entire development process, from early ideas and requirements from electricians to finished products in real life.

What is the most fun and most challenging part?

The best part is learning new things. As you become more familiar with them, the work becomes more enjoyable. Even if there is not much design work in this particular project, it is still rewarding to create solutions using the tools and knowledge you have. That is one of the most satisfying aspects of being an engineer.

Moving between different industries allows you to meet new types of people, which I find very rewarding. Variation really is the key.

What do you like to do in your free time?

It varies over time, but I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music, working out, and taking online lectures. I like to deep -dive into any educational topics such as politics, history, economy and sociology.
